Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Unimog star in A Good Day to Die Hard

Product placement in movies in nothing new, but the latest installment of the Die Hard franchise seems to be taking it to another level. Although A Good Day to Die Hard stars Bruce Willis, it appears that Mercedes-Benz might rival him in terms of screen time. In fact, the film co-stars 14 different Mercedes-Benz models, many of which partake in thrilling car chase scenes.

According to a press release from Mercedes-Benz, the automaker’s fleet plays a key role in helping John McClane (Willis) save the world from impending nuclear doom. In order to defeat his insurmountable foe McClane enlists the services of the G-Class, Sprinter, Zetros and Unimog, which are the ideal “hero cars,” according to Anders Sundt Jensen, Head of Brand Communication Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Aside from the aforementioned “hero cars,” A Good Day to Die Hard features the C-Class, Vito, E-Class Saloon, G 63 AMG, GL-Class and a Maybach 57, which is owned by Mercedes-Benz’ parent company Daimler AG. Despite the surplus of vehicles, the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA is noticeable absent. The CLA, which is the company’s smallest sedan, recently made its high profile debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

No stranger to the Die Hard series, a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL was prominently featured in Die Hard: With a Vengeance, the franchise’s third installment. In the scene, Willis drives a stolen 560 SEL (that he stole) while attempting to flee some bad guys driving a Dodge Ram.

Also known as Die Hard 5, A Good Day to Die Hard is the fifth installment of the popular Die Hard film series. The movie centers on John McClane (Willis) who travels to Moscow to help his estranged son, Jack (Jai Courtney), get out of prison. In the meantime, the father and son tandem get caught in a terrorist plot that involves a nuclear weapons heist.

The franchise’s first installment, Die Hard, was released in 1988 and was based on the 1979 bestselling novel Nothing Lasts Forever. Each of the five movies revolves around New York City police detective John McClane battling a group of terrorists.

The Die Hard series has grossed over $1.1 billion, making it one of the most profitable franchises in history. The franchise’s last installment Live Free or Die Hard grossed more than $383 million worldwide, making it the most successful entry in the series.

A perennial favorite amongst Hollywood’s elite, countless Mercedes-Benz vehicles have been featured in both film and television. Various Mercedes-Benz vehicles were showcased in classic films like Goldfinger, North by Northwest, The Exorcist and American Gigolo, as well as modern favorites like Transformers, The Hangover and Taken.
