BMW vehicles star in new Mission Impossible movie

(TorqueNews) - The fourth installment of the Mission Impossible series, “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, will not only feature explosions, action-packed sequences, fight scenes, movie stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, and Tom Wilkinson. Several BMW vehicles will have starring roles.

The BMW vehicles that will be featured in the film include the futuristic BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, the concept car for the forthcoming BMW i8, and the BMW 6 Series Convertible. Each is driven by the movie's main character Ethan Hunt, who is played by Tom Cruise, in many key action sequences. You can catch a quick glimpse of some of the BMW vehicles that will be in the movie in promotional materials being released leading up to the film's release.

BMW is even launching a Mission: Impossible-themed marketing campaign which they have called "Mission to Drive." The campaign will include a branded advertising campaign, which kicks-off today via broadcast, print, online and in-dealer activations which includes a limited time "self-destructing" sales offer running now through January 2. These special dealer activations offer more than 200 special screenings of the film for BMW customers. In addition, there is a contest that will award an all-expense paid trip to the “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” U.S. premiere.

“The film allows us a wonderful opportunity to showcase not only BMW's vision for future vehicles but to highlight some of the newest and most popular cars in our current fleet," said Trudy Hardy, Manager of Marketing Communications and Consumer Events at BMW North America. "The synergies between BMW's high-performance vehicles and one of the most action-packed film franchises on the big screen were perfect.”

“BMW provided an unprecedented level of technological support to our production team while shooting the film around the world, ” commented LeeAnne Stables, Paramount Pictures Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Partnerships. “Our collaboration continued through development of their innovative global marketing campaign themed to the film which will lend incredible support to the studio effort.”

This is not the first time BMW vehicles have been featured in an action and spy movie. BMW vehicles have been featured in several Bond films, the most famous spy series of all time. “Goldeneye” featured a prototype BMW Z3, with a special VIN code starting in 007. “Tomorrow Never Dies” had a BMW 750iL that was driven with a cellphone, including a chase sequence with a BMW R1200 motorcycle. “The World is Not Enough” had a BMW Z8.

“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”, will be opening worldwide in theaters on Dec. 21, 2011. The movie will have an exclusive IMAX engagement beginning on Friday, Dec. 16 and IMAX screenings will be available through the film’s run at the box office.
