Whew! Exclusive Cali race track on track to open fast

The members-only Thermal Motorsports Track & Club in southern California has received approval from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to break ground on a new race track that will open by the first quarter of 2012. The board's approval was the last step needed by the luxury racing club to begin construction.

“Thermal Motorsports Track & Club's final approval represents the finish line of three years of relentless dedication and cooperation between the County of Riverside and our staff at Thermal,” said Paul Clayton, founder of the club.

"I would like to thank the Board of Supervisors for their support and dedication to Thermal.”

Thermal Motorsports Track & Club plans will begin phase one of the project in July, Clayton said. The track and club will be housed on 344 acres next to the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport. Members will be able to drive their own personal cars as fast as they choose, without police there to ticket anybody.

If things go as planned, Thermal Motorsports Track & Club is positioning itself to become North America’s premier destination for automotive connoisseurs and racing enthusiasts. There already is evidence of pedigree: Club driver Townsend Bell qualified this year for the Indianapolis 500.

PGA West and the La Quinta Resort will give their memberships full access to amenities offered at Thermal, which is situated within the breathtaking desert landscape that is greater Palm Springs. Thermal is an invitation-only members club that marries California Motorsports and leading-edge facilities to create a compelling mix of style and performance. Only 500 people will be invited to join the club.

Each member and their families will benefit from access to the premier sporting facilities of PGA West and the exclusive opportunity to own track-side lots that will provide the ultimate in luxury-vehicle storage and entertainment.

Thermal will become a track and a lifestyle and vision "drenched in wonder," constructed with "forward thinking design" and "man’s ongoing love affair with machine" in mind, Clayton said.
