Ram announces new 6.7L High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel in Chicago

This afternoon, Chrysler’s Ram brand fired a shot heard ‘round the heavy duty truck world as they introduced their new 6.7L High Output Cummins Turbo Diesel at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show – putting the Ram 2500 and 3500 atop the list of the most powerful trucks in the world with a whopping 800lb-ft of torque.

The Cummins-powered Ram trucks have remained competitive with the Ford Powerstroke even though the current non high output Cummins offers just 650lb-ft of torque to Ford’s 800. With the addition of the 6.7L High Output to all 2500 and 3500 models with automatic transmissions starting in the second quarter of this year, the Ram brand receives 23% more torque, now offering the same 800lb-ft of torque as the Ford. In addition to having an equal amount of torque, the new Ram HD High Output is capable of towing an unprecedented 22,700 pounds – comfortably eclipsing the competition in maximum towing capacity.

In addition to offering class-leading torque and towing capacities, Ram wanted the new Cummins to be more convenient to own so the new 6.7L High Output Cummins is the only heavy duty diesel truck on the market that does not require the regular checking and filling of diesel exhaust fluid. The HO Cummins Ram does not use a modern urea system, as the Cummins does not create the high levels of contaminants found in the General Motors or Ford diesel exhaust – making the new Cummins High Output the logical choice for today’s “green” heavy duty truck own.

Ram did not announce the horsepower or any change in price for this new, far more powerful diesel engine in the 2500 and 3500 models but should more information become available, TorqueNews.com will bring you updates!
