Mopar builds the Hemi-powered Jeep Wrangler Renegade for Moab

The Jeep Wrangler Renegade headed to the 2011 Easter Jeep Safari looks like a pretty standard production-issue Wrangler but under the hood of this topless Jeep is the 6.4L Hemi from Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division.

The Jeep Wrangler Renegade moniker is not technically new, as the Renegade name was used in the 1970s on Wranglers equipped with V8 engines. Based on that, it is fitting that this unassuming-looking black Wrangler Renegade would be packing a modern Hemi V8 but Mopar skipped over the standard 5.7L Hemi from the Jeep Grand Cherokee and went straight to the 6.4L, 392 cubic inch Hemi found in the modern Dodge Charger SRT8 and Dodge Challenger SRT8.

The 6.4L Hemi fitted into the Jeep Wrangler Renegade channels the power to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, with 475 horsepower making this one seriously fast Jeep. However, since the Moab Mopar vehicles are built to handle the off-roading world, the Renegade has also received ProRock front and rear axles with 4.10 gears, a 4” suspension lift, and 35-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials wrapped around AEV Pintler wheels. Also, to help keep the 6.4L SRT Hemi nice and cool, the Wrangler Renegade has a hood designed to extract heat from the engine bay and an off-road ready front bumper complete with an integrated winch helps to prepare the Renegade to help out lesser off-roaders. Finally, the Jeep Wrangler Renegade gets a set of 6.4L Hemi badges for the fenders and some Renegade decals reminiscent of the 1970s models along the sides of the unique hood.

Mopar is usually pretty good about showing off the Moab Easter vehicles at other shows around the country (like the SEMA Show in Las Vegas) so hopefully those who aren’t making the trip to Utah will get a chance to check out this awesome Hemi-powered Jeep soon!
