First 2016 Corvette Z06 C7R Edition Raises $500k for Charity

Earlier this year GM announced the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition appearance package for the 2016 model year and this past weekend, the right to own the very first racing-inspired was auctioned off at the Barrett Jackson Las Vegas event – with the winning bid bringing in a half million dollars for charity.

When the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition package was introduced earlier this year, it was met with mixed reviews. Some people love the look of the endurance race team inspired appearance package while others scoffed at the lack of real additions. The people in that second ground wanted the C7.R Edition to be more than an appearance package, perhaps because the most track-capable Corvette of all time isn’t enough for them already?

In any case, the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition is a sharp appearance package and with only 650 units slated for production in the world (and 500 in the USA), these models will likely be gone in a hurry. Perhaps with that in mind, the bidders chasing the right to own C7.R Edition #001 were willing to shell out big money for the bright yellow super-Vette.

The C7.R Edition Detailed
The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition comes only in bright yellow with matching yellow brake calipers and yellow trim on the black wheels. The black wheels are joined by unique black trim on the hood and roof, an exposed carbon fiber aero kit that comes with the Z07 package, a visible carbon fiber hood design and unique badging on the seats. Finally, there is also a unique dash plaque to help announced the limited nature of this package.

Of course, the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition is powered by the same supercharged LT4 V8 as the other C7 Z06 supercars, packing 650 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque while a high tech magnetic suspension setup and monster carbon ceramic brakes make this the best-handling Corvette ever.

GM didn’t announce a price with the details of the Corvette C7.R Edition, but considering that it is essentially a fully loaded C7 Z06 coupe – which costs roughly $105k – these unique Chevy supercars should start somewhere north of that figure.

Big Money for Charity Via C7.R #1
Although some critics of the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition will downplay the special nature of this car, the bidders at this weekend’s Barrett Jackson Las Vegas auction recognized the value of owning VIN #001. The bidding started hot and heavy, with the figures quickly blasting past the expected starting price of the C7.R Edition Z06 and when the final gavel sounded – this sporty appearance package had brought in $500,000.

The proceeds of the auction for the first C7.R Edition Corvette Z06 will go to the College of Creative Studies in Detroit.
