A Closer Look at the 2015 Dodge Challenger 392 Scat Pack Models

While the Chrysler Group was most concentrated on the new 1971-esque styling of the 2015 Dodge Challenger, the bigger news was the introduction of the new R/T Scat Pack models that are powered by the 392 cubic inch Hemi – and today we take a closer look at the features of the new Scat Pack Challenger.

The 392 cubic inch, 6.4L Hemi V8 has previously been reserved for vehicles from the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) brand, but beginning with the 2015 model year – the new Dodge Challenger R/T can be ordered with this powerful engine. The 392 Hemi is available in two R/T-based trimlines; the 6.4L Scat Pack and the 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker. These two premium trimlines both come with the same 392 cubic inch Hemi with an estimated power output of 485 horsepower and 475lb-ft of torque with all of that powered being channeled to the wheels by means of a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 8-speed automatic transmission. Chrysler claims that, when mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission, the 2015 Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker can dash from a stop to 60 miles per hour in the mid 4 second range while running through the quarter mile in the low 12 second range. The 392 Hemi 2015 Challenger will also reach a very impressive top speed of 182 miles per hour.

The addition of the 392 cubic inch Hemi in the 2015 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack brings big power to the non-SRT lineup like never before, but the Scat Pack is way more than just a big engine. All 2015 Challenger Scat Pack models feature an electronically controlled exhaust that can offer big noise when you want it while being quieter at the push of a button. There is also a standard Brembo front brake package that combines massive rotors, high friction brake pads and four piston calipers that will help this big, brawny muscle car to get stopped from 60 in just 117 feet. Drivers will also enjoy the electronic power steering system that offers Normal, Comfort and Sport steering settings, new 20x9 inch wheels wrapped in high performance tires and the Dodge Performance Pages – which include launch control, performance timers and the ability to adjust the steering feel, transmission response, stability control systems and other vehicle parameters. Finally, the Scat Pack comes with unique badging that sticks a mean little cartoon bee on the fenders, a 180mph speedometer sporting an awesome old-school look, a deep front chin spoiler and a unique low profile rear spoiler.

Those 2015 Dodge Challenger buyers who want the 6.4L Hemi without the Shaker hood (for whatever reason) can opt for the special Scat Pack Appearance Group. This adds a unique Bumble Bee rear stripe, Gloss Black grille surround, HID headlamps, unique 20-by-9-inch forged lightweight Hyper Black II matte aluminum wheels, high performance seats, a high performance steering wheel and a premium Alpine-branded audio system with 276-watt amplifier.

Those 2015 Dodge Challenger buyers who do opt for the 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker package benefit from even more unique content inside and out. Obviously, the stunning new Shaker hood design, which feeds cold air into the hungry Hemi engine is the centerpiece of this package with matte black shaker stripe graphics on the hood, trunk and roof. The Shaker package also adds Gloss Black grille surround, Satin Black rear spoiler a Satin Black fuel filler door, Challenger script grille badge, a “Shaker” underhood badge, a 392 Hemi logo on the Shaker scoop and the Super Track Pak. The Super Track Pak equips the 2015 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker with a specially tuned suspension package that lowers the car by about a half inch and offers better handling in high performance situations with help from a set of Bilstein shock absorbers and a unique Dodge Performance Pages shortcut button that lets the driver jump to things like the engine performance meter, the quarter mile timer or a long list of vehicle gauges at the quick push of a touchscreen button.

On the inside, the 2015 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker comes with perforated leather seats in Dark Slate Grey or Radar Red, a performance steering wheel (similar to the one offered in the 2014 Challenger SRT), bright silver pedals, a Shaker plaque on the dash and a Shaker icon on the 7 inch thin film transistor screen at startup.

No pricing has been announced for the 2015 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack with the 392 Hemi, but considering that many of the components of this package were previously offered on the Challenger SRT – I would expect a price in the same ballpark as the current SRT models. This means that the 6.4L Scat Pack models will likely cost somewhere around $40,000 while the 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker will likely be somewhere in the $45,000 range when cars begin hitting dealerships late in 2014.

Whoa. . How cool is that! A 392 scat pack. Have a 2012 SRT 392. I think the scat pack idea is right on. Looking forward to seeing the new SRT!

I am a Dodge/Chrysler owner having owned 2xRam 1500 Sport, and a Aspen limited. Looking at getting a Challenger now, but the differences b/w the 6.4L Scat Pack and the 392 Hemi Scat Pack is a bit confusing. Am I to understand that the difference is just cosmetic? Do they both have a 6.4L or is one 6.2L? I need to see a brochure to see what each one has. Am I to assume the 392 Hemi Scat Pack is the Premium/Limited version which is the top version of the SRT8?

Correct. Just cosmetic. Both have the 6.4L (6.2L is the Hellcat) one has the shaker hood and stripes and the other with the Scat Pack Appearance group has the rear scat pack stripe and shaker stripe delete. Plus the Scat pack appearance group has interior extras; bumblebee on the seats and floor mats and bumblebee start up screen.
