Bentley announces management changes

Bentley Motors has announced that former vice president of research and development from Porsche Auto Group will be taking over the position of Chairman and CEO of Bentley, effective February 1, 2011.

The current CEO and Chairman of Bentley, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen, will retire after 8 years with the luxury automaker at the age of 65 and his position(s) with Bentley will be assumed by Mr. Wolfgang Dürheimer. Dr. Paefgen has been asked to remain involved with both Bentley and Volkswagen Group, where he will continue to serve the company as an advisor.

The 52 year old Dürheimer formerly stood as the vice president of research and development with Porsche Auto Group, having joined the company in 1999 as the manager in charge of the 911 product line. In 2001, he joined the board that oversees all research, development and product management for the Porsche brand. Prior to coming to Porsche, Dürheimer served as the Head of Product Development for BMW’s motorcycle division.

Bentley included this quote by Mr. Dürheimer in the announcement of his new position with Bentley:
"I am flattered by the trust put in me by the Volkswagen Group. To take charge of a Company such as Bentley is a significant responsibility. The Company has such an illustrious history and the developments made over the past few years have been outstanding. I know I have a lot to learn about the Brand and the people but hope my experience with Porsche will serve me well in a new role and a new country."
