2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels production package debuts ahead of SEMA

Last year, General Motors brought out an outrageous Hot Wheels Concept Camaro and while the metallic green paint and unique tail lights didn’t come for the ride – GM has introduced a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition as a limited production model at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

As you can see in the images on the right, the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is a more subtle appearance package than the Hot Wheels Concept from the 2011 SEMA Show but it isn’t any less cool to those of us who loved Hot Wheels back in the day (and those of us who still do). This is the first time that any automaker has offered a full size Hot Wheels model for sale.

“Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages.”

The 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is designed after the original Hot Wheels Camaro that was one of the first 16 original Hot Wheels toys in 1968. This special edition package is available as either a coupe or a convertible and with either the 2LT V6 or 2SS V8 models. The Hot Wheels Edition Camaro begins with a ground effects package including a front splitter, rocker treatment and a ZL1 rear spoiler all finished in Kinetic Blue with matching blue ghost flames on the rear quarter panels. The Hot Wheels Edition Camaro Coupe sports a ZL1 grille upper in black while all of these special edition models get black 21” wheels with redline stripes around the edges, a black two tone matte hood stripe, a rear tail light blackout panel and the familiar Hot Wheels badges all around.

Inside, the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition a blacked out interior that spans from the headliner to the instrument panel to the doors to the leather seats to the carpeting. The Hot Wheels flame logo is found embroidered on the headrests of the front seats as well as on the door panels and on the door sill plates. The black leather seats wear contrasting red stitching with more subtle red trim on the Camaro logo floor mats. Also, since the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is fitted to the top of the line 2LT and 2SS packages – you can expect all of the premium amenities like a premium sound system, steering wheel controls, voice activated Bluetooth commands and the large Chevrolet MyLink touch screen infotainment system.

While the drivetrain of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is the same as the current 2LT and 2SS models, including the 323hp 3.6L V6 and the 6.2L V8 that has a power output of either 400hp (automatic transmission) or 426hp (manual transmission). A dual mode exhaust system similar to the one featured on the powerful Camaro ZL1 is available with 2SS manual transmission models as well as all 2LT Hot Wheels Camaros.

The 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition will arrive in dealerships during the first quarter and while General Motors has not stated just how many copies of this special new Hot Wheels package will be available; the American automaker has stated that “when they’re gone – they’re gone”.

General Motors has only offered up a couple pictures of the new 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition and you can see those in the gallery on the right by clicking any of the thumbnails. However, with the 2012 SEMA Show less than 48 hours away – you can expect more pictures of the new Hot Wheels Camaro here at TorqueNews very soon. Stay tuned!
